what's in a download?
in the case of a single track, a download from philip's site typically consists of an mp3 file and a copy of lyrics and artwork in the form of a zipped webpage. cover art print files may or may not be available.
an mp3 album download, on the other hand, comprises its individual tracks, cover art where available and a set of lyrics, visuals and sleeve notes. two download options are provided for greater convenience; the entire album can either be downloaded as a single zip file which the user then unzips on their computer, or in the case of an unstable connection, the album components can be downloaded one at a time on a file-by-file basis.
availability
music is available for download for four days after purchase, with three download attempts.
sound quality
while the sound clips have been encoded at 96kbps for greater convenience, the actual downloads themselves are currently encoded in stereo at 192 kbps constant bitrate with crc error detection to ensure sound quality and universal compatability.
format
the mp3s on philipfogarty.com are unencrypted so that users do not have to buy a proprietary player to play back the files. we feel that this dignifies the arrangement between philip and his audience, and we ask that you respect this arrangement and philip's work by not copying the mp3s, but rather by telling others about the downloads section.
